Accurate Discrete Transfer Radiation Modelling in Industrial Furnaces - a Validation Study
The real-size oil fired furnace is simulated by using the general-purpose CFD tool SWIFT. In order to predict the overall heat transfer and temperature distribution accurately the approved Discrete Transfer Radiation Method (DTRM) was implemented. The semi-empiric oil combustion model, developed at Power Engineering Department, was used when modelling combustion. This paper first brings theoretical details on the combustion and radiation models used. Subsequently, the experimental set-up of the simulated furnace from IFRF at IJmuiden was shown. The simulation results are presented at the end.
