Synthesis, photochemical synthesis and antitumor activity of new amidino substituted benzo[b]thieno quinolones

Quinolones have found many uses in medicinal and synthetic chemistry. Some of them possess interesting biological and pharmacological activities, such as antibacterial, antiasthmatic, antivirial and antitumor activity. New amidino- and bis- amidino- subsituted benzo[b]thienoquinolones 1-9 were prepared by multistep synthesis. Bis- and mono- amidino- supstituted anilides, obtained from corresponding cyano-anilides by Pinner reaction or by condensation of acyl-chlorides with p-amino-N(isopropyl)benzoamidine, were photochemicaly dehydrohalogenated in methanolic or aqueos solution to obtain quinolones. All prepared compounds were tested on their antitumor activities.
