Literature of Australian Aborigines: from oral to postcolonial discourse
The thesis represents an attempt to unveil how the former Aboriginal smaller récits started challenging the former grand récit of Australian postcolonial literature against a specific socio-historical backdrop in the attempt to erase both smaller/grand attributes and place these récits side-by-side. The other aim, as important as the previous one, is to show that Aboriginal literature is, notwithstanding its transition from body to book, a literature with a continuum from the point of view of Aboriginal form and content. This formal and conceptual continuum will be based on preservation/adaptation of traditionally Aboriginal oral forms within the contemporary Aboriginal written text (poetry/prose/drama) and especially preservation/adaptation of typically Aboriginal concepts such as the Dreaming as well as a specific Aboriginal experience within the aforementioned structural framework.
Aboriginal poetry; Aboriginal prose fiction; Aboriginal drama; the Dreaming; language issues; appropriation of Western genres; oral tradition
