GPS Signal Deterioration in Urban Environment: A Winter Case Study
Deterioration of satellite positioning signal properties in microenvironment is frequently investigated in order to assess the development of the appropriate propagation model. This model affects significantly the positioning performance, determining the usability of positioning for integration in various user-oriented services and applications (navigation, location-based telecommunications services etc.). Theoretical urban three-state fade model is proposed in order to statistically describe the satellite positioning signal deterioration resulted from receiver microenvironment. The parameters for the model are to be determined for every particular environment, and the validity of the model itself is to be proven. In order to examine the validity of proposed model, an experiment was conducted in semi-urban part of Zagreb, Croatia during the calm and dry day in January 2003.
