Application of the discrete transfer radiation method in simulation of diluted hydrogen jet diffusion flames
In this work two hydrogen jet diffusion flame configurations are numerically simulated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code SWIFT. Based on stationary laminar flamelet methodology, chemistry related calculations were obtained in pre-processing step using CSC solver together with a detailed hydrogen mechanism consisting of 13 species and 37 reactions (including NO chemistry). The chemistry/turbulence coupling is accounted for via presumed beta probability density function (beta-PDF) of mixture fraction moments (mean and variance). A conservative form of the discrete transfer radiation method (DTRM) is applied for radiative heat transfer calculations. Radiative properties are modelled as a weighted sum of grey gases, although spectral dependencies are reported to be important in similar flame configuration with methane. For different amounts of helium (0 % and 20 % by volume) in hydrogen stream the impact of radiation on temperature field is investigated. Predictions are compared with experimental measurements.
