Sažetak:
The relationships between self-rated emotional intelligence (as assessed by ESCQ ; Taksic, 2000), self-reported stress, and health were examined in men and women in two Swedish town organizations. The first organization was an institution for elderly people, administered by local government, where 119 employees, mostly women, participated in the study. The second organization was a public transportation company, where 71 employees, mostly men, participated. In addition to the ESCQ instrument all participants answered the Job Stress Survey (Spielberger & Vagg, 1999). This survey comprises thirty typical work-place situations, which are rated for severity of stress by means of nine-point scales. The Job Stress Survey provides three main scales of stress: Job Stress Severity, Job Pressure, and Lack of Support. Self-rated health was assessed by indicating on five-point scales the degree of presence of each of 29 different symptoms. Main results showed that emotional intelligence as measured by ESCQ correlated significantly and positively with the stress scales for the females, while the corresponding correlations for the males were negative, although statistically unreliable. Correlations in both organizations between ESCQ and health ratings were negative and statistically significant. Reasons for the discrepancies between the present results and previous findings with the ESCQ test are discussed.
