Uspješnost primjene brzog ultrazvuk screeninga stada na gravidnost u mliječnih ovaca, njena praktična primjena i rezultati
Research is preformed on sheep dairy farm using sardinian breed which are mainly kept on pasture, milked three times daily and milk is used for cheese production. Mating is performed using free system in groups consisted of females and one male, without synchronisation and ram spends long interval with ewes. There are no valuable anamnestic data about reproduction success. Farm has 360 ewes and 15 rams. Research was performed during november 2004 with purpose to determine percentage of pregnant sheep to give recomendation for vaccination and aproximatly expected days of lambing. Fast ultrasound scanning of herd has shown that 250 ewes were pregnant between 75 and 125 days (70%) and 110 ewes were suspected to be pregnant. Later detail ultrasound checking excluded pregnancy in 51 ewe (14%). Lambing season has shown that 323 ewes had lambes (89%) and 37 didn't (11%). Fast ultrasound scanning has shown that we can succesfully exclude pregnancy in 97% cases while in 3% cases we failed. Keeping in mind solved time and efforts we consider this result very satisfying. The whole procedure was preformed during only two days with 2 veterinary gynecologists and dynamics of examination did't significantly disturb everyday practice and production on the farm. Confirmation of pregnancy on basis of fast ultrasound scanning was possible only in 70% cases but lambing results have shown that exactly 70% of ewes in herd were pregnant 75-125 days in the moment of scanning and that is optimal timing for fast ultrasound scanning in sheep herds.
