Prediction of donor behavior – theories of reasoned action and planed behavior
The main aim of the study was to test the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the theory of planed behavior (TPB) for prediction of donor behavior. 417 participants were examined using standard TRA and TPB instruments adjusted to prediction of blood and bone marrow donation. Measures of the past behavior and moral obligation as additional predictors were also included in the questionnaires. Theories were tested using Structural Equation Modeling. The results confirmed the main idea of TRA and TPB theories as both models fitted data. Perceived behavioral control emerged as most important predictor of intention to donate both blood and bone marrow, and moral obligation and past behavior were both significant predictors. Comparison of models for predicting blood and bone marrow donation showed many similarities, indicating the existence of common factors engaged in all donor behaviors.
Theory of Reasoned Action; Theory of Planed Behavior; blood donation; bone-marrow donation
