pH-sensitive liposomes bearing ligands for receptor-mediated targeting

pH-sensitive liposomes composed of DOPE and CHEMS or SPC liposomes, both entrapping fluorescent marker, were prepared by a modified freeze-thawing method.Ligands (bovine serum albumin, BSA and N-acetyglucosamine derivative of BSA, N-Ac-BSA) were coupled to preformed vesicles through an anchor molecule (soy sterol PEG 1100 tresylate) by a coupling efficiency of 60-70%, regardlessof the lilposome composition and protein used. Results suggest that by applying pH-sensitive liposomes bearing N-Ac-BSA it is possible to achieve specific association with the LMH cells.
