Scientists' Work Values
Using the factor-analytical procedure, five different factors of scientists' work values or value orientations were identified: utilitarian, social (or orientation towards the favourable general context of work), self-actualizing, individualistic and adventuristic orientation. The hierarchy of respondents' work values shows that scientists rank values within self-actualizing orientation (utilization of one's abilities, personality development, achievement and creativity) as being genarally the most important, whereas those values determining adventuristic orientation (authority and risk) are ranked as least important.
