Social software and applications for knowledge sharing in e-learning: Use of weblogs, wikis and social bookmarks as elements of instructional design

This paper discusses the potential for using social software such as weblogs, wikis, and social bookmarks in the design of e-learning activities. Each of these technologies is briefly outlined in this paper and analyzed in the context of instructional design in e-learning. Furthermore, the results of a survey are presented regarding the use of various internet-based communication tools and social software among college students, as well as the evaluation of the potential for using social software in academic education. Finally, a case study is presented on the application of weblogs, wikis, and social bookmarking in a university course.
