In the Name of the Altogether Other
The emergence of the genre known as synthetic literary history coincided with the formation of large European nations, so it is understandable that he constitution of national identity played a crucial role within it. This led to a selective approach to works of art, one that later became the subject of criticism during the process of decolonization and exacerbation of ethnic and cultural differences. The synthetic approach was gradually replaced by "post-modern encyclopedia" which stood in for "otherness" that was previously excluded. This paper looks into the consequences of this conceptual shift.
