The Influence of Growth and Development on the Correlation between Morphologic Characteristics and Motor Abilities of Seven Year Old Boys

The canonical relations between 14 morphologtical and 12 motor variables have been analysed on a sample of 325 seven-year old boys. The measurements were performed twice, at the beginning and at he end of school year. Two statistically significant canonical correlations were obtained in the first and five in the second measurement. In the first measurement the first canonical variable is defined by negative correlation of endo-mesomorphy with aerobic and muscular endurance, while in the second the meso-ectomorphy is correlated with general motor efficiency. In the second measurement a differentiation of morpho-motor characteristics si evident. The firs canonical dimension is defined by negative influence of endomorphy on general motor efficiency. The second is based on a positive influence of meso-ectomorphy (with slight endomorphy) on explosive power type throwing. The third canonical dimension mirrors the influence of slight mesomorphy and longitudinal measures of the skeleton on flexibility and sprint, the fourth describes a morphologic structure disadvantageous for jumpers and somewhat more advantageous for long distance running and fifth a negative influence of a more prominent meso-endomorphy on realisation of long-duration running.
