Evaluation of the program of community-based housing in Croatia
Aim: The aim of the research was to evaluate the quality of the first community-based housing service provided for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) in Croatia. Methods: 45 adult persons with intellectual disabilities aged 21-57 years participated in the study. Objective indicators of the quality of support as well as subjective experience of quality of life of the clients were examined. Results: The highest quality ratings were in the areas: housing conditions, daily life activities, interpersonal relationships, natural and professional network of support. In the future development of the support service, more attention needs to be directed towards the following areas: promoting more varied activities in the fields of employment and leisure time activities, organizational structure and staff management. The majority of participants expressed general satisfaction with their life and with their opportunities for competence and autonomy improvement. They were least satisfied with the level of social interaction with people without disabilities and their degree of social inclusion. Conclusions: In the future, the service should direct more attention to the development of person centered planning of support and a system for evaluating expected results.
