Accuracy of body perceptions and body image preferences in children ages seven to ten years,
288 Croatian school children, ages 7 to 10 years indicated their current and ideal body size by Schematic Figures (Child version), (Collins, 1991)and they choose preferred figure of their same and opposite sex friend. For weight assessment Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. The results show that girls at the age of 8 years were accurated in the perceptions of their body while boys develops this ability later, at 9 years. Girls aged 10 indicated as preferred female friend the figure which was more thinner in regard to their current appearance, as well as boys. These findings support the existence of a cultural ideal of thinness in both girls and boys.
