The Modelling of Transients in Synchronous Generators for Wind Turbine

Two methods of modelling the transients in synchronous generators for wind turbine are presented: computation of dynamic electromagnetic field and computation of equivalent circuit. The applicability of both methods is illustrated with calculation of sudden short circuit in a synchronous generator for wind turbine. Electrical and mechanical quantities obtained by calculations using both mathods are compared , and differences explained. It is proven that the electromagnetic field calculation method is more adequate when modelling cases that require higher accuracy of computation.
