Sažetak:
Organic surfaces are typically less ordered and less thermally stable than their inorganic counterparts. However, the recent explosion of interest in this area has been fueled by advances in the creation of novel and flexible synthetic routes that enable the formation of very well-defined organic surfaces. Self-assembled monolayers are assemblies spontaneously formed by the immersion of an appropriate solid substrate into a solution of organic molecules. In this study, the adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics of self-assembly of n-alkanethiol monolayers on a polycrystalline gold electrode were studied in-situ using electrochemical quartz crystal nanobalance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The double layer capacitance was used to calculate the surface coverage as a function of time and the concentration of alkanethiol. The structural and electrochemical properties of alkanethiol monolayers were studied by contact angle measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and electrochemical measurements.
