Chemistry of Colloid Surfaces and Coagulation in Printing Inks' Wastewater

In this work artificial wastewaters (AWW) were prepared with flexographic water based ink and coagulation of AWW with anorganic coagulant iron (III) chloride and H3O+ ions was examined. AWW of pigment, extender, polymers and alcohols which are used in formulation of examined ink were prepared too and coagulation was examined. The results have shown that iron (III) chloride and H3O+ ions are effective coagulants for pigment, extender and varnish (acrylic polymers). Non-coagulated pigment, solvent molecules and non-ionic polymer molecules have to be removed by sorption, by membranic processes or by combination of both techniques so called complex hybrid processes.
