Sažetak:
On summer 1999 at Sućidar, northern part of Split, out of ancient Diocletian's palace, human skeletal remains has been found occasionally in the clay ground. Extended male skeleton, age 30-40, lying on the back was found in the pit (depth 1.1m), together with ceramics from later Roman period. The skeletal remains were damaged due to excavation. Dental status was regular, without any specific marks. On the right hand was bracelet made of copper, with open ends. Estimated time since death was 1760 80 years (14C method). DNA was extracted from femur and amplified in 10 loci (Profiler, PE Biosystems, USA). Although the ancient bones were 1, 700 years old, we successfully extracted and typed DNA. The high quality of extracted DNA could be the result of soil characteristics.
