Sažetak:
Research conducted in 2006 on the nationally representative sample of 1008 subjects revealed that only 5, 6% of the Croatian citizens are active members of some of the NGOs. Based on the data on subjects current active membership in NGOs, and data related to their expressed intention to became a member of the NGOs, subjects were divided into three groups: subjects who are presently actively involved in NGOs work, those who are presently inactive but who stated they would probably or certainly become an active members of the NGO if asked to participate, and those who did not show any intention to actively participate in NGOs work. Presently inactive citizens with expressed interest to participate in NGOs work showed similar characteristics to already active NGOs members, and both those groups significantly differed from the citizens not interested in becoming involved in NGOs work. Differences among those groups were found in tendencies to help acquaintances in different situations, inclination toward money donation to some organizations, marital and employment status, education and income. However, groups did not differed in gender and expressed level of religiosity. Of all the groups, NGOs active members were the one who expressed that they benefited the most from the NGOs work. The obtained results were discussed in terms of theoretical and practical implication for the inclusion of new members in NGOs.
