The 2, 4-dinitrofluorobenzene induced inflammatory lesions in colon of NMRI mice: influence of previous sensitization on mononuclear cell infiltration

The aim of this study was to obtain inflammatory lesions in colon of NMRI mice and to demonstrate the influence of previous sensitization with 2, 4- dinitrofluorobenzen (DNFB) on the extent of mononuclear cell infiltration within lamina propria and submucosa after the challenge enema with DNFB. The animals in experimental group were sensitized prior to receiving the challenge enema into the lumen of the colon. The animals in control group received only the challenge enema. During follow-up period (24-72 hours after challenge) edema, haemorrhage and ulceration were observed in colon of experimental group of animals and to a lesser extent in control group. The significant difference in mononuclear cell infiltration of lamina propria and submucosa between axperimental and control group was found on 24 hours, and 48-72 hours after DNFB enema, respectively (p<0.01). In conclusion, our results demostrated the efficacy of 2, 4-dinitrofluorobenzene in inducing the colonic lesions in mice showing the great importance of previoussensitization according to the mononuclear cell infiltration of colonic lamina propria and submucosa.
