Auditory evoked potentials-Advantages and help in the early diagnosis of eighth nerve neuroma - a case report
A case of a 35-year-old women complaining of hearing impariment on her right ear for about a year, with no other clinical signs, is reported. otologic examination was normal. Auditory evoked potentials (AEP) showed changes of the evoked response, which indicated specific neuroradiologic examination. Computed tomography of he posterior cranial cavity with contrast showed a tumorous formation in the right cerebellopontine angle. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain clearly showed a tumorous formation in the cerebellopontine angle that, its appearance suggestive of a neuroma, as subsequently confirmed by histopathology. AEP are of great help in the diagnosis of tumorous processes in the cerebellopontine angle, especially of the brain nerve VIII tumor, while clinical signs of the pathomorphological process have not yet developed. Such an early diagnosis enables timely treatment, before any ireversible lesions develop.
