Breast Cancer and Creative Arts Psychotherapy
The increased awareness of the cancer patient traits and needs, that must be taken in account in the frame of complex biopsychosocial models of treatments and rehabilitation, has led to the development of relevant research projects and new models of supportive interventions. The necessity of unification of various concepts within an holistic approach and advancement of theoretical and practical knowledge in various problem fields is pointed out. Emphasis is on the discovery of aesthetic dimension of existential experience, existential values, actualization of creative potentials and therapeutic catharsis as well as self-regulation of biodynamic and psychosocial processes related to experience of the Self. For example, Fantastic Symphony and Return to Life by Berlioz in which sad sounds of cymbals and thunder of drums sound horrifying and become melologue of life pulsions in the process of self-regulation and self-realization, while real contents are erased and transformed through sensory, affective and aesthetic imagination can have special meaning in therapy. Simultaneously self-perception in the sense of "double (de) coding", corresponds to the process of transition which enables the individual to separate from the actual and enter the timeless, as a result of different symbolic functions. This also refers to all considerations of possible physiological changes that occur under various supportive influences and vice versa, as well as to the scientific analysis and meta-analysis of the process of subject reaching the feeling of creator.
