Tricuspidal valve endocarditis due to Yersinia enterocolitica
Y. enterocolitica is a rare cause of infective endocarditis. A case report o a 75-year old man with endocarditis is described. Three sets of blood cultures (BacT/ALERT FN and BacT/ALERT FA) were positive for Y. enterocolitica, serotype O:3. Current NCCLS (CLSI) guidelines were used for sensitivity testing. E-test (AB Biodisk) was used for MIC determination. Among 1, 779 patients with IE included in the International Collaboration on Endocarditis – Prospective Cohort Study this is the only case of Yersinia endocarditis. This is the first case of any native tricuspidal valve involvement without previously implanted pacemaker or known valvular disease and concomitant septic phlebitis. Only one patient had previously been reported with tricuspidal valve endocarditis but it was associated with contamination of previously implanted pacemaker.
