Experiences of CBT in BiH
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is one of currently most often used and best empirically supported forms of psychotherapy, especially in the treatment of anxiety and depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has just emerged in Bosnia and Herzegovina two years ago, but it is profoundly spreading. Pretty large number of psychiatrists and psychologists is enrolled in CBT training, many of whom are already practicing CBT techniques with their patients, under supervision. The symposium will cover the basic application of CBT in the treatment of anxiety and depression. The first two presentations will give the overview of the efficiency of CBT in treating patients with depressive and anxiety disorders. Two case examples of successful CBT with depressed and panic patient from personal practice will follow. Two presentations will give the personal assessment of the contribution of supplementing CBT to pharmacotherapy in the treatment of a group of depressed and a group of anxious patients. Finally, broader application of CBT techniques, outside of psychiatric setting, will be illustrated by the new developed and suggested program for children undergoing orthopedic surgery. All recent experiences support a strong foundation of CBT in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
