Concomitant trimorph of cis-dioxo[(N-3-oxypirid-2-yl)-salicydeneiminato- O, N, O'-methanol] molybdenum(VI)
Polymorphism is a thoroughly investigated solid state phenomenon wherein compound crystallizes in different phases as a result of various crystalline arrangements of compounds molecules.[1, 2] Since the physical and chemical properties of a compound are the outcome of its solid state arrangement, the polymorphs have different thermal stability, electric conductivity, solubility etc. That fact is very important in various industrial and pharmaceutical processes. In some cases, the same crystallization condition can produce crystals of more than one polymorph in the same batch, and those compounds are known as concomitant polymorphs. These systems provide very valuable information for chemist interested in the phenomenon of crystallization. The title complex crystallizes concomitantly in three different polymorphic modifications, triclinic (1), orthorhombic (2) and monoclinic (3), respectively. Each polymorph forms centrosymmetric dimers through two O– H• • • N hydrogen bonds and a few weaker interactions. The conformational differences between the dimers lead to differences in crystal packing of the three crystalline modifications. All structures are stabilized by network of weak non-covalent interactions.
