Modelling and optimization of superfinishing process
By superfinishing process, ultra precision machining process of cylindrical, conical, spherical and even flat surface, machined parts are obtained. These parts ought to have low surface roughness, high wear resistance and low coefficient of friction. There are various impact factors that act upon the surface roughness, yet they have not been adequately quantified. This research investigates some relevant factors effecting surface roughness during superfinishing process and these are: tangential and axial components of cutting speed, stone contact pressure, grit size, machining time and initial roughness. Detailed experiments according to the factors test plan and regression analysis, have led to extended equations for mean arithmetical roughness, being one of the most useful signs of surface roughness. In order to obtain minimum values of surface roughness, optimization of mathematical models is done and optimal values of the examined factors are determined. Obtained results are, according to the experiment plan, valid for testing of materials Ck22 and 34CrNiMo6. Test results can probably refer to other materials, but still need to be proved for each particular case.
