Relationship between perfectionism and goal orientations in sport context
The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between perfectionism and goal orientations on the sample of junior players of first Croatian football league clubs (N = 272). Athletes completed Croatian versions of Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (Lauri Korajlija, 2004) and Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (Barić and Horga, 2007). As expected, negative perfectionism was positively associated with ego orientation while positive perfectionism was positively correlated with both goal orientations. Results are discussed in the context of Skinnerian concepts of positive and negative reinforcement and Hamachek’ s (1978) conceptualization of adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism.
