Spirituality, life aspirations and well-being
There is lot of evidence of positive link between spirituality (especially religiousness) and well-being. It is also well established that investment in intrinsic goals is associated with enhanced well-being while placing importance on extrinsic goals does not enhance, and often detracts from, well-being. It is possible that setting intrinsic life aspirations enhance spirituality (purpose in life and faith in God and universe as its component) which in turn produce greater life satisfaction. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between spirituality, intrinsic/extrinsic life aspirations and well-being. Three questionnaires Spirituality scale, Aspiration Index and Satisfaction With Life Scale were administered to 284 college students. Factor analysis of Spirituality scale revealed two factors: Faith in God or Universe and Purpose in life. Path analysis showed that intrinsic life goals are positively related to purpose in life which in turn enhances life-satisfaction.
