Narcistička osobitost u separacijskom iskustvu

This theoretical article is induced by the autor's previous group experience in the investigation of separation experience influence on the process of the group members individuation. Two opposite reactions of the group members on separation experience due to a dominant narcissistic or borderline personality of the members are expressed in that investigation. In differentiation with borderline patients, narcissistic ones answered with denial of separation experience, what can be identified with O. Kernberg's idea of "paradoxical sense of continuity". This experience indicates that such an answer on separation experience can lead even to the drop out of psychotherapy and it shows the significance of understanding the meaning of separation in the narcissistic personality. A very similar Adler's observation of "narcissistic-bordeline disorder continuum" is the second impetus. A criticism of this access consists in neglecting of separation experience aspect on the narcissistic part of continuum. In his approach G. Adler indicated the meaning of dimensions which define the continuum (self-object transference, self cohesion and capacity "to be alone"). The importance of separation experience in narcissistic continuum is neglected in the very dimension of capacity "to be alone". Its influence is shown only in the borderline part of continuum. A significant observation is (1) that an expressed narcissistic vulnerabi1ity on separation anxiety exists. (2) Opposite the "borderline" model there is the "narcissistic" model that corresponds to separation anxiety which can be recognizable through the utilization of denial, idealization, displacement the conflict outside of therapy situation ("auxiliary transference object"), acting out and practicing. (3) A separation experience is presented as a key in differentiation of narcissistic and borderline pathology. (4) The importance of aggressive aspects in growth and narcissistic personality disorder, as well as their results in the therapeutic process is pointed out.
