Treatment of headaches
Worldwide population-based epidemiologic surveys have consistently demonstrated that the majority of migraine sufferers are not currently consulting their physicians about their problem and that many have never even consulted a physician .Even though migraine is a significant personal and public health problem, it is not effectively managed in clinical practice. One study showed that the main reasons were dissatisfaction with treatment or feeling that the physician was ignorant about, or not interested in the problem of migraine. Many migraine patients who do consult their physicians find that their prescribed acute medications provide inadequate relief. In a population-based study in United States, only 29% of migraineurs reported that they were “ very satisfied” with their usual acute treatment. Time constraints, under-diagnosis of migraine and unfamiliarness with modern migraine management are probably the main reasons that a certain number of migraine patients do not receive the most suitable therapy.
