Subtype H7N7 of equine influenza virus co-circulated world-wide till 1980 and disappeared from equine population. In this investigation, last isolated strain of subtype H7N7 in Europe, isolated in Sisak 1980, was antigenic and phylogenetic characterised in order to establish relationship between it and other isolated equine influenza viruses subtype H7N7. Results showed significant difference between all former isolated strains. Evolutionary distance suggested accelerated evolution of H7N7 subtype before disappearing from equine population. |
