Sažetak:
Developmental health psychology combines theoretical approaches of developmental psychology, biological psychology and health psychology in the study of interaction among health, behavior and aging. The aging process is characterized by great individual differences and plasticity. This means that the way and speed of aging are strongly affected by health, health behaviors and some psychosocial factors. Full differentiation of psychological effects from biological and social effects on aging is difficult to achieve. This article is a short review of research on the factors of aging process in Croatia, from 1979 until today. The main aim was to define the role of psychological factors and their interaction with others in determining aging and quality of life in old age. The reviewed research were on the basic role of psychological factors in the aging process, on the role of psychological factors in the quality of life in old age, and on the role of cognitive functions in the aging process. The ultimate aim of all research is to determine psychological interventions that could, along with the health and social ones, help older people maintain well-being and independence in their old age.
