Incoporation of 32p into nucleic acids and proteins during compensatory renal growth in mice
Kidney content and concentration of RNA, DNA and proteins and incorporation of 32p into these macromolecules together with the rate of incorporation of 32 p into the homogenate and acid soluble fraction were studied in adult male C57BL7GoZgb mice. Left nephrectomy was performed, and the remaining right kidney was excised 1 hour to 28 days later. Two hours before sacrificing animals were injected intraperitoneally with 37 kBq 32 p (as sodium orthophosphate) per gram of body mass. The data show that the increase of incorporation of 32p into RNA and proteins results from cellular hypertrophy of the remaining kidney undergoing compensatory growth. SSham nephtectomy caused no change in any of the investigated parameters irrespective of the time after sham nephrectomy.
