Components of orality in the psychotherapy of depressive neurosis
In the analytic literature the psychodynamics of the neurotic depression is defined as the fixation or regression to the oral stage, which represents the dynamic basis for its constitution. The psychodynamic understanding of the depression has its very beginning in the investigations of K. Abraham and notions of »oral character« and »ambivalency«, which make the basis of Freud's classic concept in the psychodynamic explanation of melancholia. Psychodynamic explanation often starts with the character peculiarities of the depressive personality, which is believed to have its origin in the »ora1 character« denoting the whole depressive symptomatology. In this article the author spreads his interest to psychotherapy and the effect of its influence upon the process alone. The accent of this investigation is on the component of passivity, not rarely leading to masochism, pointing out the problem of the manifestation and the inhibition of aggression in the psychotherapeutic process.
