Social integration of patients with psychiatric disorders: experience from an outpatient department
The main objective was to compare social integration of patients with different psychiatric diagnostic entities. They were divided into four groups: Schizophrenia, schizoid and delusional disorders (F2), Affective disorders (F3), Neurotic disorders, disorders related to stress and somatoform disorders (F4) and other diagnostic categories. A psychiatric interview with specially designed questionnaire about social demographic and clinical characteristics and social integration, as well as the clinical global impression – questionnaire were used in the consecutive sample of 95 patients from an outpatient service, from Zagreb, Croatia. Regarding social integration, a significant difference was found in comparison of the examinees in the four mentioned diagnostic groups (p < 0.0001). The greatest percentage of socially disintegrated patients was registered in the F2 group (33.3%). Our findings revealed a higher percentage of socially disintegrated patients in the F2 group in comparison to the findings in other developed countries.
