Gender dimorphism in some morphological characteristics and the way pupils spend their free time

Insufficient physical activity is considered to be one of the factors that has negative impact on growth and development. Children's free time has to be properly used to insure maintenance of good health. The aim of this study was to establish whether there exists statistically significant difference between boys and girls in morphological area and in their engagement in kinesiological activities in their free time. 146 elementary school pupils (grades 5-8) participated in the research, 81 boys and 65 girls. Morphological characteristics were measured using standardized measurements, and the area of engagement in free-time activities was ascertained by a questionnaire. The results showed that the differences between boys and girls in morphological characteristics start to show in grade 8. Variables that show most differences are height, back skin fold, upper arm skin fold, and forearm circumference. There are no major differences in the engagement in free-time activities.
