Differences in motor and functional abilities between table tennis players and 14-year- old students
Measurement was conducted on a sample of 45 fourteen-year-old males. The sample consisted of 15 table tennis players and 30 eight-grade primary school students, measured by a set of 7 tests aimed for the evaluation of motor abilities: hand tapping (MTR), long jump from standing position (MSDM), body lifts from lying position (MPT), side steps (MKUS), medicine ball throws from lying position (MBML), push-ups from kneeling support position (MSUK), forward bends with spread legs (MPR), and 1 functional ability test: 6 minute running (F6). The aim of the research is to compare motor and functional abilities of table tennis players and students. The data have been processed by means of basic statistic parameters and the differences established by a t-test for independent groups of examinees. The results obtained show that tennis players achieve numerically better, i.e. higher quality and statistically more significant results in almost all variables, except in forward bends with spread legs (MPR).
