Nanoparticle synthesis in hydrocarbon and silane plasmas

Nucleation and growth of nanoparticles in low pressure plasma has been studied in three different chemistries. The time evolution of plasma and discharge characteristics shows similarities in the dust formation mechanisms. Other chemistries are now studied in order to check if the multistep process is a universal one. The nanoparticles have been characterized thanks to infrared spectroscopy and near edge X ray absorbtion fine strurtures (NEXAFS) in order to study their structure and constituents.
