Grandparent roles – relations with life satisfaction and generative action
Health Psychology Society. Pisa, Italy. 23-26 September, 2009. There were no previous researches in Croatia which deals with problem of grandparent roles. So the aim of this research was to check H. Kivnick's model about meaning of grandparent roles. Also, the aim was to find which relations exists among grandparent roles and life satisfaction and generative action. Research has been conducted on the sample of 210 grandparents (106 males and 104 females) aged 38 to 80. The number of grandchildren was in range of 1 to. Satisfaction with grandparent roles, life satisfaction and some grandparent roles are significantly correlated with dimensions of grandparent role meaning. Only dimension of Centrality was not correlated with life satisfaction. Significant predictors for some grand¬parent role dimensions were: grandchildren's place of living, satisfaction with grandparent roles, generative action, satisfaction with parent's role and subjective health assessment.
