Sažetak:
Emotional intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability to perceive and express emotion, assimilate emotion in thought, understand and reason with emotion, and regulate emotion in the self and others (Mayer and Salovey, 1997). EI can be assessed via two types of conceptualizations: as a self-report, and as an ability conception. The self-reported approach encompasses behavioural dispositions and self-perceived abilities. Although self-report measures have been criticized as too subjective and less valid, research shows that it has satisfactory psychometric properties. The emotional Skills and Competencies Questionnaire (ESCQ) was developed in a Croatian setting, on the theoretical basis of the Mayer and Salovey emotional intelligence four branches model, and than translated to countries from four continents (Argentina, Canada, China, Finland, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Sweden and USA). The ESCQ is a measure of self-reported emotional intelligence and consists of 45 items divided into three subscales: Perceive and Understand emotions, Express and Label emotions and Manage and Regulate emotions. Reliability analysis showed high Cronbach Alpha internal consistency for the total ESCQ score and each subscales in all the samples. Results showed significant differences among countries in total scores and in all three subscales of ESCQ. The major difference was found among all the sample on one side, and Japanese sample on the other. Gender differences emerged mainly in Perceive and Understand emotions and Express and Label emotions subscales.
