Rapid ergonomic assessment methodology for engineering design
The aim of the study reported in this paper was to offer methodology for rapid ergonomic assessment in early phases of product development, in order to support user-centered design methodology in conceptualization and embodiment that could be utilized by engineers that don’t have specific knowledge in ergonomics. Proposed assessment methodology based on the evaluation of the ergonomic features is described and validated on example of medical diagnostic table, followed by evaluation case study results and discussion. Finally, proposed methodology for evaluation purposes, or concepts benchmarking, offers variety of possibilities, but most significant contribution can prove to be assessment standardization, as well as ability to cover and represent most ergonomic feature groups, excreted as united score. Its ease of use and swiftness in utilization can improve engineering design as early in a process as possible without need for employing specialists in this field, by identifying key features and direction in user centered products development.
