Components of Effective Learning Environment: Diversity in Three Regions

This study examines the major environmental components that students find conducive to their learning at university. The commonalities and differences in students’ perceptions of their learning environments in Hong Kong, USA and Croatia are compared. Findings show that despite some similarities, students feel quite differently in what components are important to them in enhancing their academic learning with Hong Kong students place an emphasis on time management, US students on support from professors and Croatia students on technological support. Students’ self efficacy in the three regions is also examined. It is found that Hong Kong students self-reported the lowest self-efficacy despite their high academic achievements. Cultural differences for this discrepancy deserve further investigation.
