Alzheimer Disease Societies Croatia - Raising awareness and fighting stigma through arts
Here we describe how a person with AD, who never painted before developing AD responded to art therapy. Mister Z.O. was advised to start with art therapy while attending the Daily care center. In turn, art therapy significantly improved his sense of well-being and his overall quality of life. Although he has never painted before developing Alzheimer's disease, most of us who knew him (including his wife) were surprised with his talent and creativity. While painting he was calm and satisfied, both in the Day care center and at home, and his behavior dramatically improved. We concluded that art therapy, as an add-on non- pharmacological intervention, can be beneficial for behavioral disturbances in people with dementia.
