Aspects of a reliable determination of wind-generated loading spectra
Dynamic interaction of wind and structure can lead to fatigue failure even if the vibra-tions are stable and the structure is not subjected to excessive overloads. Estimation of the load spectrum is the basis for the analysis of fatigue performance. Traditional cycle counting methods in the time domain (ASTM, 97) are time-consuming, expensive, trou-bled with technical and experimental problems. Furthermore, measured signals represent only a short part of the design life and extrapolation of a measured spectrum to a longer time period is needed. A question arises: How to generalize load levels and durations?
