Determination of Material Homogeneity Using Infrared Thermography
Applications of Infrared thermography in civil engineering are not limited to the identification of heat losses in building envelopes. Within recent years there has been an increase in the use of infrared thermography as a non-destructive method for detection of the defects and anomalies in various civil engineering structures. Infrared thermography in non-destructive testing is aimed at the discovery of subsurface features of structures, to locate the defect. Afterwards, by using other non-destructive methods defects can be effectively quantified. This paper shows the study of material homogeneity in the water intake structure using infrared thermography. Areas of low quality concrete were correctly detected and mapped. Infrared thermography has proved to be an effective tool for fast and qualitative inspection of a structure's state.
