Purpose - This paper specifically aims to explore characteristics of students needed to be fostered for development of future entrepreneurs. The accent is on the educational part of entrepreneurs’ carrier. What is expected from the educational system concerning the preparation of the future graduates that will decide to follow up their business ideas and dear to test their strengths on the market. Design/methodology/approach - Questionnaire was used to collect real life data. First part of the survey measured: creativity, personal control concerning future carrier, achievement in project work, intuitive problem solving, leadership of others and attitudes towards financial risks. Other part of the survey referred to student’s social background ; family background, gender, tendencies towards entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial intention. Findings - Significant connection was found in all categories believed to be characteristics of the entrepreneurs and the measured intention itself. Additional results confirmed the relationship linking the entrepreneurial intention and demand for this type of education. Research limitations/implication - Limitation of the survey is inability to draw causality effect between the variables. For this to be possible a very complex and much different layout of the social experiment would be necessary. Further limitation is the absence of longitudinal research that would offer clearer view of the entrepreneurial carriers of students. Practical Implications - Practical implication would derive from the results of the survey incorporated in possibly necessary changes of syllabus and the educational approach used for the promotion of entrepreneurship. Originality/Value - This could be a valuable insight to the entrepreneurial approach and the importance of entrepreneurship education due to the collection of data from the country in the process of accessing the EU. Sample size is 400 graduate students from the Republic of Croatia. |
