ADHD – School problem, Case study

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) is a Disruptive Behavior Disorder characterized by the presence of a set of chronic and impairing behavior patterns that display abnormal levels of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity or their combination (DSM-IV). One of the biggest problems for school-age children is their impulsive behavior and lack of concentration during classes which can disturb other students in class and result in school failure. On this poster we wanted to present such a case on a 7-years-old boy, who has been diagnosed with ADHD. The boy was included in a project called “Assistant in class”, so during his classes a graduate of psychology was helping him with a school activity. The aim of this study is to show different cognitive-behavioral methods that the graduate of psychology was applying on the boy’s behavior and their results. We tried to include the boy’s family and the social environment in this project and we educated his parents and teachers about the methods like positive reinforcement, “economy token”, activity scheduling and others. We will also present the boy’s functioning measured with a different test and an observation at three different points in time: when the graduate of psychology started her work (first point in time), changes in the boy’s functioning during follow-up (second point in time), and at the end of our project (third point in time). And, of course, we will present the goals that we have achieved.
