The oxides os sulfur (SOx) in exaust emission from marine diesel engines derive directly from the sulfur (S) content of the fuel used. In the combustion chamber the sulfur oxidizes principally forming sulfur dioxide (SO2) and to a much lesser extent sulfur trioxide (SO3). SOx=SO2+SO3. SOx emission has detrimental effect on human respiration, vegetation, building material and produce acid rain. In this paper will be analyzed if SOx scrubber can be economic alternative to the low sulfur fuel on the ships.
