Correlation of results obtained on the WISC-IV and school achievement in Croatia
WISC-IV is one of the most comprehensive tests of intelligence in the world. It has 15 different subtests, and each of these subtests measure a specific cognitive skill. Those subtests sum up to 5 different Indexes: Verbal comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working memory, Processing Speed and Full Scale IQ. In this research we have investigated the correlations of all of those subtests and Indexes with 3 different school grades: mathematic, foreign language, mother language. The grades were taken from 219 students that finished the first semester and represent an average of grades from the whole semester. We have taken for this research children aging from 13 to 14. Correlations were ranging from a low 0, 09 up to 0, 67. Subtests had of course lower correlation with grades, in comparison to Indexes. We have investigated which subtest mostly contributes to a specific school grade. We found that subtest that measure general verbal intelligence (like Block Design, Arithmetic, Matrix Reasoning ) had high correlation with all grades. As expected, some subtest like Vocabulary and Information were higher correlated with Language Classes. In the paper, we will present more detailed results.
